architecture practice
Architects Graham and Elaine Edgar are known for creating healthy buildings that celebrate the experience of nature, without adverse impact on the environment. They live off grid at the high tide mark and love helping others realise a coastal lifestyle. Originally from Scotland and Malaysia, both worked internationally before choosing Nova Scotia's spectacular South Shore to live, explore and create.
live
Nova Scotia's South Shore appealed to us because of the stunning scenery, nature and people. We wanted to live somewhere special, and found the perfect spot off the grid by the shoreline. The clean, fresh salty air, the rippling reflections of the moonlight, the breathing of the tides... there's nothing quite like it.
We practice zero waste principles and instil these values in our designs. We have studied the harmful effects of common building practices and are currently writing a guide for designing with healthy and responsible materials.

We only take on projects that align with our philosophy on architecture and life, and where we are sure of a good fit.

COASTAL HOME - INGONISH
Our design for this forever home has comfort and practicality at heart. Framing a stunning view of North Bay, the open plan central living space separates off the visitor bedrooms, which are sure to be frequently occupied
NET ZERO ENERGY
Our Net Zero Energy design for a new administration building for la Municipalité d' Argyle is the first of its kind in Canada. Each year it produces as much energy as it uses by an array of photovoltaic panels - and that's less than half of the power demand of a regular code compliant building.

SUMMER HOME - HERRING POINT
Perched atop a dramatic sloping rock face, on the tip of the Aspotogan Peninsula facing the raw Atlantic Ocean, this site offers an unmatched commanding panorama from St. Margarets Bay to Mahone Bay.
COASTAL HOME - ISLAND WATCH RUN
Sitting up high, this site for a new home has incredible sweeping views. There’s an island that is bound to be spectacular in winter when the swells pound the frozen shoreline.

ARCHITECTURE IS THE ART OF STORYTELLING
Our stories are about people, nature and life,
in the past, present and future.
create
"price is what you pay, value is what you get" Warren Buffett
Anyone can design a house and get it built but only an Architect can create the value you deserve when making a large investment in a property. Whether that means in terms of equity or quality of experience, untrained designers and typical construction practice will not do your project justice.
